HOLY CRAP! Lew... Lew...Lew... Lew! Jesus! I stumbled across your web site and couldn't believe my eyes. You... Bob... and is that MY bari that you played all these years? If so I'm going to have to buy all your recordings so I can tell people, "Hear that? That was once MY saxophone." That was the horn that, when I first played it for Lennie Tristano after studying with him for a year on tenor, Lennie said to me, "George, that's your instrument!" Yeah, right... until the day this doctor told me I had rheumatoid arthritis and there was no cure (a misdiagnosis, by the way) -- my death sentence, your lucky day! Three hundred bucks! Desperate times! Unreal, Lew, unreal. I sincerely hope you still have that horn. Then there was the time I was practicing in a practice room at MSM -- that horn had a powerful sound -- and Mr. Rauscher opened the door and told me to stop that noise!!! Amazing -- the days when "saxophone" was a dirty word at MSM! Enough of history. So then I looked up Bob, and his web page -- read about COTA, and was ready to jump in my car and drive out to the Gap (I'm still on LI, Hicksville to be exact). A little more muddling on the web and I realized that you are in South Florida, and Bob is gone. Damn. Damn it. Why didn't I find you guys a few years ago? I couldn't find anything about when Bob died but it had to be in just the past few years. Lew, your bio is the life I dreamed my life would be like. Pardon me while I go commit suicide. Hey, just kidding -- if I was going to go that route the time would have been when I was told my fingers were crippled for life. We play the cards we're dealt, So I taught. Well, that's why we all got that music education degree, right? It was our insurance policy -- too bad I had to collect on it. Lew I can't tell you how wonderful it was for me to find your web site and read of your accomplishments. Sorry this is so verbose for a guest book entry. My e-mail is ggrippo@pipeline.com -- would love to talk to you -- send me your number, or call me at 516-731-5844. George Grippo

Lew, what a treat! This website is one of the most well designed sites I have had the pleasure to"visit". The content is most informative, but beyond that, makes for great reading which,in and of itself, is very unique for any website. Congratulations on both the website and the compilation of life achievements that you bring to table. Will share link with my friends for sure!!
