(B. Reid) The Gypsy is a ballad which was famously recorded by the Charlie Parker Quintet in Los Angeles on July 29, 1946 during the ill-fated “Lover Man” session for Dial Records. The Gypsy is often overlooked in the current jazz repertoire. Lew’s lightly swinging interpretation with solos by both Green and Marino kicks things off nicely. Mike Simonetti
